Are These Engine Numbers Compatible

Recommended Posts

Guest tay

my bottom end has finaly given up on me so i need a replacement. I have found an engine out of a 405 but it has a diferent engine number. i was wondering if i could just use the bottom end from it and roll on again or if it was completely different

the current engine is a D6B and the 405 engine is a D6A and has different manifols from what i've been told but thats all i know

thanks tay

the bottom end from the 405 xu9 engine is the same as the 205 and you will be able to use it to solve your problem... just check it has the sandwich plate between the sump and block.. if not swap the two parts from your blown engine.. and it may be wise to check the bottom end of the new engine as it is a weak point on the xu engine.. and would be a pisser if you fitted another duffer

erm, aren't the piston tops totally different on the 405 SRI?

how much of a differance would this make as long as they dont make contact with anything.

I'm pretty sure one has the combustion chamber in the piston and one has it in the head so you'll end up with an unusable compression ratio.

is there any way i can check this before i buy it, (without stripping it) i cant afford to go buying more then one engine.

would it be easier to put the engine in with its own head, manifolds etc... and just make some adjustments to other things to make it all fit

1. nope (unless someone else can say for defeinite)

2. the ideal way to go, use your manifolds though, 405 ones are slightly different IIRC and It saves ffaffign with all the wiring if its any different in that respect.

Yes 405 SRI were fitted with D6A and D6D. I think the injection system was different, maybe one of the two engines is with Cat and the other is without?

It was a 2L engine though stroke x bore is different from the 1.9L engine.

nooo, D6D is an XU9J2 (91 on) then XU9J2/k from 93.

D6C is XU9J4 july 87 on. all XU9's are 1905cc.

1998 cc SRi's used the XU10J2C/L/Z (RFX)

Yep the D6D I have is a 1.9 8valve non cat out of a K reg 405sri. The inlet manifold isn't interchangeable with a 205 item either as it uses a different stud pattern. The exhaust manifold looks the same as a 205 one though.
