Carbutettor Help Please

OK, so again, i know that you guys have covered this topic a few times, but I want to try to ge this as straight in my head as i can.

 

I am seriously thinking about banging some bike carbs on my almost standard 205 1.6 GTi

 

What i need to know is exactly what i have to do to make the swap?

 

I know that i need to make up a manifold, this is not a huge problem as i can do that one afternoon at me mates workshop.

 

Is it possible to take a standard GTi manifold and cut off the first part of inlet just to create the mating plate for the head and then weld on some pipes and plates to attach the carbs? I am sure I could just fill in the injector holes?

 

Some people say that i need to change out my fuel pump, and some say i dont? what is the truth? can i just sort out a regulator and use the standard pump?

 

 

The ECU for the ignition system? Do i just unplug it and thats that? what exactly am I to do??

 

Also, what carbs should I go for? I can get my paws on them fro Ebay easy enough, but was thinking to take them from a bike of around 750cc as a good bench mark?

 

What do you guys recon?

 

am i nuts?

 

is it easy ?

yes its easy :D

I tried chopping the standard manifold first but gave up as it was easier to start from scratch with a piece of 8mm thick steel and cut it to the shape of the manifold gasket. Then found an old exhaust which was a perfect match to the carbs and mounted them on silicon hose.

 

I have used the standard fuel pump with one regulator which seems to work perfectly. With the injection wiring loom i have just disconnected it all, and left it in the engine bay for now.(will be removed eventually).

 

The carbs i used are from a 1999 R1, which have the same main jet fitment as weber dgas carbs. And also weber 45 trumpets fit with slight modifications.

The hardest part is finding someone to set them up properly for you.

So, did you bin the fuel filter, or just put a regulator in line after the filter?

 

What regulator did you use?

 

What exactly did you do with the Dizzy and so on?

I put the regulator in line after the standard fuel filter, not sure which one i used, ill look tomorrow.

The dizzy vacuum advance thing is blocked up, but i think it should be connected,( i think i read that on here somewhere). the brake servo is connected to one branch of the manifold and works fine.
