Finally Discovered What The Mi16 Fuss Was About.

My jet tronic Mi16 got written off a few weeks ago, so i've been spending time getting Jay's old Motronic Mi16 back to full health. With two weeks off work what else is a guy to do with his time.

This has mainly involved replacing 3 cam shaft oil seal leaks, crank shaft oil seal and cleaning everything electrical that was covered in oil, muck and dirt. Replacing the beam, and front shocks, fixing the intermittend fuel pump relay fault, fixing the fog light wiring, getting an mot (woohoo it passed first time) and sorting the creaky calipers. Oh and cleaning.. lots and lots of cleaning.

Its running on full song and Oh my what a difference!

Acceleration wise once rolling and on cam it's not far off my old 290bhp nissan pulsar gti-r and that's really a huge compliment. Its so much quicker than my jet tronic car at the top end, it keeps pulling to the rev limit. No wonder these things are track day weapons when breathed on correctly.

The open diff is the only thing holding it back, the pulsar had tricky diff's and could apply all its horses mid bend, it used to scrabble for grip and drag itself out of most anything you chucked it into.. perhaps its time for a quaife diff :)

Anyone reading this running an MI16 using 8v ignition, get motronic (like miles said to me a month ago) its far superior in terms of drivability, performance and fuel economy.

;):D:huh:-_-:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

My girlfriend previously refused to get in cause it smelt of oil, changed lanes by its self over 70mph and the brakes rattle. Now its clean and doesn't squeak she gave me a "can i have a go" look after i opened it up down some lanes. I think she can wait just a little bit longer don't you?

Justin.

intresting that u had a pulsar and a mi16 205 to compare with...

my mate has a jap import , and drove me down a long str8 road where i can easyly hit 110mph and slow down again. i was looking at his clocks and they hit 170... and im pretty sure on this road thats impossible and it equated to around 105mph!

so i went away beleiving his car was too quick to race... what a fool i am... ill have to have a go tomorow!

I had one and so did Jay, we both owned pulsars for a while, he compared the mi16 to a pulsar on standard boost, i think he's about right. If your mates is running standard boost you'll probably keep up as long as your just coming on cam when you both go.

If its running a bar of boost or more.. it's not going to happen. try some bends though, as the pulsar suffers from pretty bad bump understeer, even more so if lowered.

I wouldn't try it from a standing start though as pulsars are 4x4 and monstrously quick off the mark, usually at a cost of their clutch or 1st - 2nd gear synchro cones,

Has your mate not had the clocks changed yet so its still running in Kmh?

Motronic 4.1 is good, but 1.3 with knock control and lamda is much better.

Mine has a knock sensor, does that mean its got knock control, not seen a lambda boss anywhere though.

no, most UK Motronic 1.3 Mi16's didn't have a lambda sensor and cat., due to leaded fuel. Still a good thing however.
