TaffyTim 6 Posted August 28, 2006 Started the car up this afternoon after driving it daily since my last coolant posts and again its almost empty of liquid. I found 5 mins and lifted the car up to see if i could spot any major leaks (after the coolant being topped up) and found a few areas that looked suspicious. 1st thing that came to sight was was the radiator: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak004.jpg then after taking this photo i noticed the top of the rad looked like its been leaking too: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak005.jpg then there was this pipe that came from the rad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak011.jpg bit of a better shot of the join in the pipe!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak010.jpg I then noticed that theres a pipe going down by the steering column that is getting o bit of ware: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak007.jpg same pipe different angle http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taffytim/leak008.jpg Any comments on these pipes and possible cause of water loss is welcome, as when i was down there with the engine on I couldnt see any obvious leakage. boldy205 75 Posted August 28, 2006 if its not leaking out externally could be the head gasket?
M@tt 77 Posted August 28, 2006 the pipe that's joined in 2 looks a little suspect if you ask me thing to do would be to pop the bonnet up after having taken the car for a bit of a run which will allow the coolant to get up to temperature. You'll probably find it's only leaking under pressure ie when the engines running, and then have another look HTH

Also good point about head gasket, this was my initial fear but im hoping its ok. Do i need to be looking out for white smoke from my behind to test this theory? M@tt 77 Posted August 28, 2006 yeah white smoke and bubbles in your coolant expansion tank with the engine running and lots of mayo in the oil filler cap are the usual signs

ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted August 29, 2006 Blown head gaskets pressureise the coolant system cusing old pipes to burst under the pressure.
