Possible Big Gearbox Problem

Recommended Posts

ANDYGON

right i've had the 309 Mi since january and its been great apart from when i brought it the owner said it had a slight knocking from the passenger side when going over bumps slowly. Ok no worries i thourght probably just a wish bone.

Anyway a week after i got it i had the wishbone changed (thanks paul) however the problem was still there.

i then went away for four months so i didnt do anything, got back and got it up on a lift at a garage for my 'expert' mate to have a butchers. nothing was loose but as we spun the wheel we noticed that the whole engine was moving across the car about 3mm from offside to nearside. His diagnosis was that the Driveshaft might be bent or not seated correctly in the diff, so off round i went a got the driveshaft changed for a good second hand one. still the problem remains....

So could it be that my Diff is knackered?

im thinking it cant be the Hub because the wheel doesnt have any play and spins fine.

any suggestions??

Thanks

Andy

as i said when we changed the driveshaft it sounds like a diff problem.

as you could here loads of noise from the gearbox/diff when spinning the wheel.

p.s gearbox mount was changed and is fine, so is other mounts.

we can still if you want swap the hub over from the goody to rule out the hub if you want?

I only posted this in another thread yesterday:

I was reading an old Practical Classics article the other day about 205s and they mentioned that a clunking noise that sounds like worn CV joints could be imminent bearing failure in the diff, which if untreated, will wreck the gearbox. They say it's uncommon (I've certainly never heard of it happening!) but obviously noteworthy in a buyers guide

Food for thought!

Spooky huh??!
