Stiff Gear Change

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking on here since i bought a cheap/almost knacked 1.6 gti for track days a couple of months ago.

 

First thing to do is thank everyone on here for all the information I have gleened from using the search facility....THANK YOU

Now I must berate you all for getting me completely hooked on 205's....damn you all

 

If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have managed to swap my little 1.6 engine for the lovely 1.9 I now have nestling in my engine bay.

When the engine was out I cleaned and tightened up all the gear linkages, made sure everything was nice and loose and not binding on anything.

I took off the 1.9 gearbox and replaced it with the original 1.6 one, the only difference I could see was the design of the 1.9 flywheel was different, apart from that I bolted it all together and put it in.

 

Now the gear change is stiff as a stiff thing in Stiff-land,

I've checked the linkage and all seems fine, it seems to be the gearbox has stiffened up

 

Any thooughts on this would be appreciated

Sounds like you have over tightened the large 22mm bolt on the L bracket.

Yep done it up too tight
