Daxed 7 Posted August 25, 2006 Sorry to be quite so dense. Took the konis off and now dont know which way up to fit the new billies. Does the body of the shock mount nearest the beam tube or the other way around? Have checked the guides on the main site, but am still not sure. Thanks in advance. Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 25, 2006 Yeah, shock body goes nearest the beam... though doesn't really matter I think
Duroc 2 1 Cars Posted August 25, 2006 (edited) You won't have a lot of choice because the lower bolt is bigger than the upper, so the body has to stay at the bottom mount. However, because Billies (other than streetlines) are a Monotube design and thus can be inverted and the arrows on the covers suggest that they should( unsprung mass...blah ..blah), as found on my Sprintlines; I did have some inserts made so I could fit them the correct way. The question is "why did Bilstein fit the bushes the wrong way round?" Or were my pair faulty. Edited August 25, 2006 by Duroc
Daxed 7 Posted August 26, 2006 Cheers guys. Yeah the covers protecting the piston rod do have an arrow pointing to 'TOP' and thats what started my confusion. The covers are considerably larger diameter than the shock body and just look like they will collect all manner of grit and road grime and then helpfully hold all the crap against the piston rod. Didn't realise the bolt diameters were different, cheers.
jim21070 2 Posted August 26, 2006 (edited) Also note with Billies that they have a "dent" in one side. It is very important that this "dent" goes toward the beam. The "dent" is there to prevent the shocker body fouling the beam on full suspension drop, i.e. when it is jacked up or going round a corner with one rear wheel in the air... Daxed 7 Posted August 26, 2006 Cheers Jim, will look out for that. Don't remember seeing a 'dent' in the shock bodies though. Don't have them to hand to check.
