Are Mi16 drive shafts longer than 205 drive shafts ? if so how much longer ??

Lets assume for a minute, they are the same length, would they be a stright swap ? splines the same ??

They are far too long as they are for a 405 wheelbase not the 205... No idea if the spines are the same though, but I would assume they are :P

Why you asking?

Wanting to create at least 2.5 deg neg probably 3.5 deg, therefore longer driveshafts reqd, so need approx 25mm longer shafts than my current 309 shafts. Any ideas Jon ??

bx 16v driveshafts are around 10mm longer fully compressed in the sockets...and the splines fit 309 / 1.9 gti hubs

I presume that the same applies to 405 Mi16 shafts ???

I've got a pair of 405 SRi shafts somewhere, I'll find them & measure the length of them.

I've got a pair of Mi16 driveshafts that are about to go in the bin, if you can pick them up you can have them if they fit.

Pm me if you want them.

Erm, perhaps, but remember if you squash them up they're more likely to lock up as the CVJ's won't be in the place they're supposed to be! -If you getwhati mean!!

I fully understand what your getting at, but I don't see that as being the problem, more likely that they are not long enough !!

the bx ones fully squished are around 10mm longer than a 309 shaft resting normally... so at a guess id say the bx shaft would be 20mm longer. have you considered welding custom shafts? if your good you can get away without balancing them too

Thanks for that, but what exactly do you mean by fully squished ???

My 309 shafts currently give me 1.6deg -ve camber with adj r/j bottom arms with no problems of shafts popping out, approx every 10mm increase in driveshaft length = 1deg therefore if the bx shaft is 20mm longer then this surely would equal an extra 2deg -ve. So are you saying that the bx shafts can create from 1deg (10mm fully squished) to 2deq (resting normally) ??

Have you solved this yet chris? As i've pretty much got the same set-up as yourself (unsure of camber yet) but its similar!
