Omp Grp-n Exhaust With Gti6 Engine

Recommended Posts

smighall

I'm nearly finished with my conversion, with just the exhaust left to sort i think. I had an OMP grp-n exhaust on the 205 before, and i have a gti6 decat sat in the garage.

Now, these don't mate up, and i don't think the decat will fit properly anyway, with clearance issues. I was just going to get a custom exhaust made up, with the only spec me anting is no louder than 98db so i don't get done at any tracks. However, i could just get a downpipe made that mates onto the omp exhaust i already have, but i think that will probably be too loud.

Has anybody had any experience with this setup? or what other setups have people got?

Cheers

Sean

I have a single box system (Magnex) on my Mi'd track car and before fitting the Jenvey's it was under 98db at 4k rpm so you should be fine as long as your still on standard induction :D

I am running gti 6 on carbs with standard modified 205 downpipe connected to magnex center box and 3" tail. Its loud but am unsure of the actual db's.

I would have thought the main factor here is your induction as mentioned before. If standard then should be fine.

I would have thought that the 205 group N exhaust is too small for the gti6 engine. Hence why they don't mate up.

As the gti6 runs a 63mm exhaust and the 205 only 45mm, you may also have some performance loss by restricting the exhaust size.

I've used a gti6 decat (and moved the lambda up a little away from the gear rods) mated up to an omp group A exhaust with a Simon's silencer chopped in the middle.

Last track day is was 95db.

The gti6 is quite a lot louder than a mi16 in my experience.

I had an OMP grp N on the gti6 at first. It had a nice sound, not too loud on stable revs but started screaming once you give it some. Those OMP's wont last too long though. Wouldnt buy one again.

I would recommend going for a 60mm system at least.

and that's the Grp A one, which is even louder as the Grp N.

My 8V with the Grp A on had just over 100dB on the Zolder track (which meant I got the black falg :D )

DES Developements do a stainless 2 1/2" Group A copy but with an optional centre box. Ideal.

Do you know how much the grp-a copy is?

I'm going to go see a friend of a friend later as he may be able to make me up a full exhaust anyway, but trying to keep my options open.

I made my own full 2.5" s/st system for a fraction of the cost of the DES one :D
