Grim.Badger 15 Posted August 23, 2006 I don't know much about alternative engine managements but some seem to let you get rid of the Dizzy on the petrol XU engines. If you are running non-dizzy management is it possible to put an XUD vacuum pump on the end of the camshaft of a petrol XU? Would this give any better braking than the vacuum created in the intake? This is purely hypothetical from my point of view as I can't even afford to MOT my car at the moment, let along modify it
jim21070 2 Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) I see where you're coming from... Don't think the pump will fit a petrol XU head and the XUD head is considerably different over on the "distributor" side. IMO, you get as good if not better vacuum from the inlet manifold on a petrol engine as the little diesel pump can produce. The only reason the XUD needs the pump is because a diesel is always WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and cannot therefore generate much of a depression in the inlet manifold. No petrol engine ever runs fully WOT all of the time and they generate a tremendously high level of vacuum. Even when the vacuum falls to a very low level under WOT, the brake servo stores enough vacuum for several full brake applications. The servo in effect acts as a vacuum accumulator.
