I think i have a problem with my master cylinder, but i'm not sure. When i press the brake pedal it goes firm like it should but then creeps down slowley then the brake fails, sometimes it doesnt go firm at all and needs a second pump to stop the car. does anyone know what the problem might be?

thanks

john

a ) a fluid leak, leading to

b ) air in the system or

c) knackered seals on the master cylinder

That doesn't sound like air in the system to me.

Check your master cylinder resevoir to see if its losing fluid.

Chances are that you need a new master cylinder though - it fails in this way quite commonly.

What size cylinders are fitted to 1.6's, 19mm or 20.6mm?
