New Mi Conversion

Recommended Posts

jerseypug

fitted the mi into the 205 and all was going well untill i drove if for its first drive, when i tried to turn it off the engine kept on running,

i managed to stop it and tried it with a different ignition switch but when i pluged it in all the ignition lights came on even without the key in it. there was power running into the switch from a wire that should not be live as it is the feed to run the engine.

it seemed to fix itself somehow but the next drive everything was going well untill i stopped for petrol and when i tried to start it, the engine turned over but the fuel pump wasnt working so it wouldnt start.

i wiggled a few wires and banged a few relays and seems to be ok now.

i would love to know what the problem was so i can change something to prevent it from happening again, my first thought is the tachtronic relay but could this cause the engine to keep running as well as not starting?

any help would be appreciated

tim

Higgy

I thought the tachtronic relay got ditched in the Mi conversion. Are you using the full 405 engine loom?

If wobbling the wires has cured the problem, then you have a loose connection SOMEWHERE. Thats the problem, you will have to check all your joins/connections I guess.

This was the problem I was dreading when doing my Mi conversion.

I dont know if there is a quick way to do this, just good old fault finding. Get yourself a multimeter.
