Current State Of My Carbs

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

Just putting my rebuild questions aside for one moment....

I am unsure what to do with my twin 45 Webers, here are the problems which need sorting:

1) The car will not idle more than 10 secs before cutting out.

2) When I try and slowly add revs, right up to the red line they become very rough and misfire around 2500-3000rpm (a full throttle rev is fine however)

3) I tried to adjust idle (screw by throttle linkage) and all that happens when revving it, is that the revs will remain high and only very slowly come down to idle - clearly not right!!!!!

4) they look very work out and rather s*it to be fair

I am thinking about getting rid of them and buying a new pair. However, is it worth spending £600+ for these, or would it be worth just getting someone to fully service them....

Bascially do these carbs ever come to the end of their useful life where it is no longer economical to repair them or is an overhaul cheaper and simpler than full replacements..?

no point getting rid of your carbs and buying new carbs.

just give yours a good clean and service and their be fine.

replace all the gaskets in them, strip out the throttle spindles, butterflyes and replace the throttle spindle bearings, clean the spindles and the holes where the spindles sit in. put all bk together with new throttle return springs and they will be good as new again.

Thanks for that mate. Would you be able to recommend adecent place to but these..? DT only appear to offer a basic service kit.

How much would you think the major carb overhaul cost in parts and labour..?

i dont know how much service kit cost.

give them a ring and ask.

do the service and replace the bits yourself. easy to do.

have a look over on Fleabay, theres a webber importer on there thats only 15 miles away from me in south wales ( about a mile up the road from my Mum's hose and the PSA specialist I use)

rebuild them with the appropriate bits then get them tuned up properly.

Are they balanced properly ? if not that will effect idle and part load something chronic.

I think its a chap called Anthony that runs that place - i've ordered a few items from him off eBay and they both turned up next day, top service
