1.9 8valve Funny Cutting Out Problem

Recommended Posts

For the last 3 days my car has been running funny, i have noticed a loss in power and the engine feels a bit ropey.

Went to go fishing to Newhaven and the car cut out on me, i then tried to start it straight away and there was nothing, even thow i had batterry power i was not even getting a click. After 20 minutes or so i was getting clicking and the starter trying to turn.

We eventualy managed to bumb it and get home that day.

Next morning car started ok, I had not charged the battery overnight. But then it cut out again sfter a while, same symtoms, starter would not turn over. i left it at my mates and started it latter that evening.

My car has alway idled perfectly 900rpm, but since this problem started i get a warning about 10- 20 minutes before the engine cuts by a constant increase in revs to 1400rpm and battery the light flicking.

Any ideas?, i checked the brown multiplug, that looked in good shape with no corrosion.

I have put on a new battery and it started ok, just took it for a drive to my mates and when i rev it over 3k the battery warning light comes on.

I just hope i have enough power left in the battery to get back home from my friends tonight. :D

Does this sound like a duff alternater?, i have checked the wires from the alternater and the brown multiplug. I also checked to make sure the fan belt was not slipping and checked most of the electronic connections.

It's just had a new mot and i have only just got it retaxed, looks like pugsy does not want to go fishing to Newhaven next week.
