Gtiracer 0 Posted August 20, 2006 (edited) Basically what it says in the title really, Need my torsion bar lowered and rather than taking it to a garage i'll thought i'd ask you guys as I know you'll take care of it Just want an up to date list of who can lower the rear of my car (properly), unfortunately my mums boyfriend is so busy he is unable to do it. Obviously i'm willing to pass cash to the person that will do it for me, and its not necessarily gonna be the cheapest person that gets the job, its gonna be the person that can assure me they're gonna do a good job. Sorry to sound so fussy but i'm very particular about my car and who works on it! Thanks guys in advance PS - Balls, This went in the wrong forum, can a moderator Move it to general for me Please? Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 20, 2006 http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles/b-re...lelowering.html - give it a go yourself... it's not that tricky BTW, this is the correct forum for a suspension query, which is what you have
Gtiracer 0 Posted August 20, 2006 I originally put this thread in the Events meets and whatever forum, but it has now been moved. I apprecaite the advice, but i live in a block of flats with minimal parking and minimal space out front, not to mention, the lack of tools, so it'd be cheaper and a lot less hassle to gt someone on here to do it for me as much as i would like to have a go. Duroc 2 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2006 I can give you a hand. I do my car work over at my parents workshop, not far from you (Ford End). It is a straight forward job, but as with any, the biggest problem is corrosion. Firstly, it might be a pig to get apart. And once apart, you might find there is internal damage that will have to be rectified (there's alot of corrosion damaged beams about these days). So just be prepared that there might be more work to do than just lowering it. Mike
Gtiracer 0 Posted August 21, 2006 I have a spare beam, i do't know if its any good, and its also from a 1.9 where as mine is originally a 1.6, so maybe we can interchange parts from each other if one is knackered?
maxi 36 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2006 They are all f***ed by now. Best bet is to slip down the scrappies and get a base model beam off a motor with about 40K on it. Build your 1900 one into that. Job done. Maxi
Duroc 2 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2006 I don't think it's all dependant on mileage, whether they're screwed or not, but whether they have been moved (i.e. lowered) and not adjusted correctly so that the suspension arm seal doesn't seal correctly against the cup. I agree, most Gti's have been lowered by now, so they have problems. But I had a 309 gti recently that was unmolested (of course that could only be a 5 door). It had done about 135 K. The armshafts and outer bearings were perfect! Just wish I'd kept it!!!
Gtiracer 0 Posted August 24, 2006 so how much cash would you take for lowering my beam then, if you'd rather talk bout this privately, feel free to PM me
