Valve Buckets

Am I likely to damage my cams through wear and tear by mixing up the valve buckets? Because stupid me turned the head over and oops, they all fell out and I've no idea which goes where. Also the camshaft bearings are muddled up and one of them is a little damaged (although it still fits on the car). I know all the moving parts have to bed into one another, so is there much chance of doing some damage from them being mixed up? both the camshaft and buckets do look fairly new though, so I could get away with it maybe, though I'd rather buy some new replacements instead of damaging anything.

are the cam bearing caps not numbered in any way? ive not rebuilt any pug heads recently, but im always methodical and carefull not to drop anything like that so couldnt say...

 

the buckets should be ok though in any order.

:rolleyes: arent those buckets sat on top of shims that make up your valve clearances? You need to replace that damaged bearing too or your cam will become scrap very quickly.

It's the edge of the bearing that's damaged, where it meets the main part of the head. I don't think it's likely to do any more damage, but I don't want to risk it. It looks like it's been prized off with a screwdriver or something, because there's similar damage on the head itself. I'll get a pic when I've got access to it as it's currently in my work place.

The buckets can be mixed up but the cam bearing caps can't

Theres only two bearing caps that you can mix up.

Fit them without the cam and run your finger on the inside face and feel for a step where the cap meets the head.

If there is one try the other cap.

mixing the buckets up is no problem the shims inside is... you will need to get a engineer to do the shimming unless you have the correct new shims and a lot of time and paitience and a calc to work the sums out
