Best Buget/midrange Spotlamps (6" Ish Circular Ones)

Recommended Posts

Guest brodeh

I’ve had the privilege of borrowing a friends 205 1.4 gt road rally car as my main drive for a while.

It ran a new set of original headlights with 90w/130w rally bulbs and a pair of cibie super oscars, again with 130w rally bulbs.

At night that thing was like driving round in a small sun, and i miss it, my 1.9 gti is rubbish compared!

What are the best lights to go for to upgrade the standard gti driving lamps, without costing the earth? Been looking at cibie airport 35's, which can be had for around 40 ish a pair. Has anyone used these?

And then driving/spot lamps, the big round mount on the front type (big daddy). Driven with super oscars and turini's. But for me as a uni student turini's are too expensive :) Whats the best value for performance 'big daddy' light you have used?

I’m trying to decide if its worth upgrading both, and swapping between the standard placed lamps and the 'big daddy' lamps for road rallys (only allowed 4 forward facing lamps) or to just do away with the bulbs and wiring for the standard placed driving lamps leaving just the shell there and using the 'big daddy' lamps all the time.

Any opinions would be a great help :P

ps. sorry for calling the large cibie super oscar type lamps the 'big daddy', seemed an easy way to identify them <_<

The best i have found are the super oscar and hella 3000 both of which are not cheap .

E bay is always a good place to start , Some guys i know use KC day lighters.

the std ones are no good for road rallying , but you can leave them in place if you can prove to the scrutineer that they are disabled .

There is another lamp , but the name escapes me , will try and dig it out that is a good value compromise.

One thing to cosider if you are fitting the higher rating lamps , is to run them through a relay ..

Rally Design do some Cibie Oscar Plus's for a decent price. I have these on my road rally 205, and I think they look quite neat as they have a flatter back than the standard Oscars.
