New Suspension Set Up Options, Opinions

Recommended Posts

skeggyrik

I'm in the market for a full set of dampers and springs. The car is not going to be a daily driver but it will be driven on the road once its sorted out. The idea is that I'll do a few track days in it a year.

So far the choice is Bilstein sprintline all round, which I understand gets a reasonable report. I have heard that some find the rear dampers a little soft?? Thoughts?? Also looked at dampertech Gaz set up, both the fixed and adjustable height offerings, does anyone have any experience of these? Comments for and against? Does anyone else have a recommended set up in the same kind of ball park I'm talking here? I'm interested to get a few actual user reports as opposed to the usual manufacturer spiel about how wonderful their product is. I would also be interested to hear about anyone who has tried different stiffness springs, they are just numbers on a page to me, how are they in use, what's silly for anything but track use etc. I'm looking for a bit of user background info before I leap into purchasing.

Best price I have so far for the sprintline kit is £430 from motorsport world, would be interested to hear of anywhere else that's cheaper. Without wanting to break any wanted ad rules, I'm not adverse to buying second hand items, so do let me know if you have anything that might be of interest.

its the cheaper bilstein streetline rears that are too soft, and its not a little bit either, they are softer than the standard shocks!

Butler

Budget for wishbone bushes, top mounts, rear beam mounts and maybe a rear beam rebuild too.

Plan is for a full overhaul of the suspension. Car is currently too low at the back and on naff lowered springs at the front, with standard (old) dampers. It's crashy and doesn't go round corners very well. Beam will have to come off to sort the ride height so will attempt refurb then if it's not already knackered. It's had new rear mounts on will get group N top mounts at the front as I they are probably shot. Wishbones need doing (ball joints are shot) hence me asking in the previous post about the 309 option. lots to do but should be adifferant car once done.

Miles

The Bilstein Sprintline kit is very good for the money, It's one of the more popular ones I supply. The rears are the most important, Most go off after a while and Bilstein did do allot of work in this area

Butler's given some good advice on checking the top mount's etc, The bearings have normally given up and are turning on the rubbers.

Or if you can stretch to it, get the Bilstein Challenge spec dampers.

I've just fitted some to mine after some Sprints and twatted them round the Ring. Awesome dampers........

Got my sprintline kit from Miles along with the GrpN top mounts and new bearings. Cant compare to much else but i love em, Miles also did me a good price if i remember, recomended. For the money as well they are probably the best, except maybe GAZ? which some other ppl have had good results with. There height and damping adjustable coilovers look a very good price, and then u can fiddle about with srping rates, and eccentric top mounts etc.. but as with all things £££ start to add up. gl nehow.

Just thought I'd follow this up. I went for the Gaz fully adjustable coilovers in the end. £360 delivered. I'll let you know how I get on with them.
