My Rebuild

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

As part of my bottom end rebuild for my 8v 1.9 I am planning on replacing:

1. Main & Big end bearings

2. Reground crank

3. Group A Oil Pump spring

4. Oil Pump

5. Pistons

6. Piston Rings

7. Liners

8. Conrods

As I use it for hill climbing I want to ensure they are stand the abuse. As a result I am wanting to get Mi16 parts as opposed to normal 8v standard replacements where possible.

It would be appreciated if anyone could indicate out of the above which I should go for in MI16 spec.

I am currently thinking Mi16 liners as they are ribbed but what else will bolt on to an 8vso I know what to order in 8v spec and Mi16 spec

Cheers

IT also depends on how high you want to rev the engine

Not too concerned about high revs - I am looking for reliability and good mid range power. Max RPM of an 8v is fine for me

If I had the parts available, I'd use Mi16 crank, rods, pistons and liners. All much better stuff, designed for continuous high speed operation.

Hi - So I take it Mi pistons, liners and rods all fit into a 8v..?

Yes, but the pistons or head will need modifying as they will give you mega high CR

Thats interesting as I ma going for a rally cam to work nicely with my carbs....I need a CR of 11.5 as recommended by QEP. Any ideas what Mi16 pistions will raise my CR to without having to skim the head..or would this approach be unsuitable...?

thanks

I'm afraid, you'll need to seach for the chamber volume of the 8v head, plus the gasket volume, the Mi pistons are flat top rather than the dished 8v type. maybe more suited ot using a XU10 head and the Mi pistons, Matt at QEP would be able to help better.

so by fitting a 16v head will increase its "standard" output to that of an original Mi16..? and will by fitting the 16v head give me as many tuning options as the original MI..?

XU10 isn't 16v, it's an 8v from 306 XSi (and others) with bigger valves than XU5/XU9.

Ok I see B) I wonder how this would fair against a big valve head conversion Puma racing offer..?

If you try searching it, there's been lots covered on it before, it's got a much better flow capabitly than the std GTi head. plus the chamber is bigger so youc an then use flat topped pistons, but hav a search for the info.

You'll end up with approx. 11.25:1. I wouldn't call that mega high.
