Easiest Way To Modify A 205 Gti

Recommended Posts

roland rat

ive been planning to modify my 205 for some time and ive finally saved up enough cash and gathered some parts (bigger brakes, better suspension etc).only dilema facing me is the fact that i want more power!!i really fancy an mi and have my eye on one at the moment but i seem to get stuck when it comes to getting around the cat issue.as i cannot prove the age of the mi 16 engine i would have to retain the cat for mot time.will this affectfor power of an mi lump in any way?

As i understand it, MOT tester's go on the age of the car not the engine.

But if you do have a problem simply de-cat after the MOT

You'll probably find that the car will pass the MOT without the cat - mine has for the last 4 years in a row (at different MOT stations too).

If thats the case go the Mi route - I intend to in the near future. If you use the engine loom from the Mi then you'll do away with the cat too.

What age is the car? Mines a K registered in Dec 92.

All alloy Mi16s are pre-cat so fitting the 1.9 Mi never requires a cat to be fitted, you don't have to prove its age, there was never an example fitted with a cat. MOT rules are clear and is based on oldest age of car or engine.

They're are many examples of this done without any MOT issues.

I'd think that as long as you declare the change in engine number with the DVLA then it should come up with a proper non-cat data at MOT time.

so even if i cant prove the age of the engine aslong as i notify the dvla that the engine doesnt have a cat when it comes to mot time theyll test it as one without a cat fitted?

Talking to my MOT man, A letter from the manufacture is the rules to say what your engine is if it's to bypass a CAT test.
