306 Hubs...making Wheels Stick Out?

Recommended Posts

Ahl

I had to replace the hubs on my 1.9 as they were oval, so opted for some hubs from a 306.

One of the hubs turned out to be oval even though it was low mileage :D but I managed to get another identical hub from a 306 sedan thing.

The thing is, with all these 306 hubs, the wheels seem to stick out past the arches very slightly. From everything I'd read before I was lead to believe they were a direct replacement.

The steering is also now very light and undescriptive around the mid point, although its possible this is due to some other factor.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I was under the same impression as you that they were basically a straight swap, although I've not tried it personally. Might grab a pair from the scrappy next time I'm there and see what effect it has, as I want to swap out the hubs on my Goodwood anyway.

If they do increase the front track then that might not be such a bad thing though....

The hubs themselves are definately the same, same part number. But the carriers (which I presume you're talking about) vary between models on the 306. I've got S16 ones on my 309, which are hollow cast and potentially stiffer than the 205/309 ones, but when I bench measured them they seemed to have identical geometry. Are you sure they're 306 ones and not bent?

Also, check the tracking. Mine felt torque steery and tramlined quite worryingly when I finished it the other day. Colin Satchell said it's was probably toeing out slightly; I adjusted it 1.5mm to parallel and it's now perfect!

Thanks for that. Yes, I do mean the carriers, not the hubs (im just lazy and say hubs for the whole thing )

They are Hollow cast like your s16 ones and seemed the same dimensions as the old 1.9 carriers when I compared them, so I though nothing of it.

Perhaps I could take a measurement on them to compare to your s16 hubs? Where should I measure?

Strut inclination, strut centreline to bottom pin centre, steering arm length from hub centre, steering arm inset from hub face, bottom pin centre to hub face, hub centre set back from pin-strut centreline.... those sort of things!
