Probably depends on how clued up the MOT place is.

My 106 is a 92 K plate, without a cat as standard and I haven't had any problems yet (although I have made sure to tell them to use the non-cat emissions test). If your engine is a replacement 1.9 with no cat and is a healthy specimen, then it's possible that they could assume it's the original engine, test it using the specified limits for one with a cat, and it could still pass. On the other hand, they could start asking questions about where the cat is if they know that age of car has to have one...

Having said all that, I'm not hugely clued up on the detailed rules, but I'm sure someone else will know! :)

With the new MOT test the chassis number get's typed into the PC and it tells the tester what test to use now, But allot of 205's get away with it as the chassis numbers pr-date the Reg date if that makes sence

Mines A K-Plate Aug 1992 non-cat 1.9 standard

Had no problems at MOT, except one year when the tester tried it on the wrong setting (CAT) then realised his silly error when the readings were ary.

The production date was earlier in the year & also the date is stamped on the head. (Probably hard to find with the head on the block)

I'm now running a with a recon head from 1989 so don't know what would be made of that.

Mine was reg'd on the 30/06/93 and has a cat, problem is the bloke before me removed the insides so it now a straight through pipe...

Mot coming up and i'd rather not buy a new cat!

My car was first registered in Dec 92 and passes the MOT without its cat, and I've been to a few MOT places with it (unless I get really lucky each time!)

I seem to remember 1st August 93 as being the start date for definately needing a cat for MOT so it looks like you'll be OK.

Slightly off topic, is your de-cat pipe the original cat but with the brick removed?

I'm currently making up a decat pipe but with a piece of tubing welded in place of the cat brick. I thought about removing the cat brick and welding it back together but I wasn't sure whether having a large empty volume in the exhaust system, just after the downpipe, would adversely affect the exhaust flow.

She passed! B)

Yep, looks standard but the last owner took the insides out. Car goes very well, doesnt give me any problems and idles spot on. I've never driven another cat model so cant say whether it makes a difference.

I do think my last 89 1.9 had a little more torque lower down (yes i do realise the timing etc is dif). Then again it didnt idle, go round corners and ate headgaskets!
