Front Tyres Scrubbing

Recommended Posts

pp205

My front tyres are currently scrubbing on the arches, they are 1.9 alloys sat on the 1.6 hubs. I didn't change to 1.9 hubs when I had the 1.9 engine put in as I had just bought new driveshafts and discs before my 1.6 engine packed up!

Anyway I seem to recall reading a post on here about 1.9 alloys sitting further out when put on the 1.6 hubs, but I can't find it after performing a search. Is this true and if so what is the best solution without having to fork out for the 1.9 driveshafts?

Hope someone can help,

Thanks

Simon

It is true that 1.9 alloys do stick out further on 1.6 hubs.

You can get base model hubs that will accept your 1.6 driveshafts I believe, but you'll have to convert to the Girling 1.9 discs & calipers. Shouldn't cost too much as plenty on here (me included) have spares following an upgrade.

Mark.

plenty of people have 1.9 wheels on a 1.6 without a problem. Is it lowered alot?

Mine scrub a bit on hard lock. Skip brown roadspeed springs -25mm. 1.6 hubs. Must be because of the wider track.

Cheers for the replies guys, I have spax front suspension lowered 30mm. They seem to rub mostly on cornering but also when I go along bumpy country roads at speed (a lot of these on the way to work!)

I do have 1.9 discs and calipers just not the driveshafts and I don't fancy forking out for more as only replaced them a couple of months ago! Thanks for the offer though Mark :)

Cheers Simon
