c_r_thomson 0 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi, I've got the chance of a rear beam from a 1.6 cti. Will this fit on my 1.9 Gti? and is it easy enough to swap the drum for the discs and caliper setup on mine? Thanks in advance. Craig
jackherer 543 Posted August 15, 2006 it'll fit to the shell, but its not a good idea to use 1.9 compensators with drums, you'd need to fit a 1.6 compensator which would mean repiping the rear. Also CTI beams ride a lot higher than GTI ones and I've never been able to confirm the thickness of the torsion and anti roll bars compared to a GTI so it may be compromised in that respect. you'd need drum handbrake cables too, the lever is the same though. c_r_thomson 0 Posted August 15, 2006 OK, I'll keep my eyes open for a 1.9 one then. Thanks for the advice!
jackherer 543 Posted August 15, 2006 is your current beam beyond repair? I highly recommend getting either the existing beam or any second hand beam (with unknown rebuild history) rebuilt before you fit it, unless you plan on selling it pretty much straight away.
