t16ryan 1 Posted August 14, 2006 as have got a H reg engine 1900 with 70k on it was wondering if this will drop straight in as never dealt with K reg onwards GTis ? Cheers
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted August 15, 2006 The engine will drop straight in, all the mounts are the same on any age of 205 GTi. To fit the older engine & kep the motronic M1.3 ecu you'll need to fit the knock sensor to the block & the dizzy from the K reg engine but other than that it'll work fine with a Cat replacement pipe afaik. You'll have to prove its an older engine though at MOT time. Check if it has a Cat though as not all K regs cars have cat's though, some 1.6 are around on K plates & they were never made with a Cat. markic 0 Posted August 15, 2006 I'm not 100 % certain, but I'm pretty sure that all cars built after august '93 have to have a cat, I'll find out at work as we have all the up to date M.O.T manuals. A freind of mine about 10 yrs ago had 93 K, Cav SRI. And I wanted to take the cat off it for him, but no M.O.T station would it.

markic 0 Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) hi had a look in the mot inspection manual and it states; 'Vehicles fitted with a different engine: Test according to which is older, engine or vehicle. e.g. A 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine (of whatever make), test to 1991 standards for emission purposes. NOTE: The onus is on the vehicle presenter to prove the engine age.' Earlier on in the manual it also says that all cars produced after 1st August 1992 must meet the lower emission settings.
