Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 13, 2006 I'm going to be ditching the standard radiator fan/cowling so need to sort out an aftermarket fan. Looking at the space I have and the positioning of the radiator I can either fit a small PUSH fan infront of the rad or a slightly larger PULL fan behind the radiator... question is, which is better? Also, anyone know of a cheap place to get a fan? I've found them for about £50ish so far... This kind of thing is what I'm looknig at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130008493559
Sandy 191 Posted August 13, 2006 You can see push from outside, if it matters!
Dj_mini 7 Posted August 13, 2006 Would pull not be better because you wont have the fan in front of the rad blocking the flow of air through the rad all be it only a small bit?
Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 13, 2006 Does make sense that doesn't it... I guess they often get put infront due to space issues behind?!
Sandy 191 Posted August 13, 2006 I think the restriction will be the same on either side, i'd keep it on the outside to keep the engine bay as clear as possible.
johno_78 2 Posted August 13, 2006 i think i've read that pull fans are more efficient, simply due to their location, as dj_mini already said. also, that fan you highlighted doesnlt seem to be the best. for only a little bit more you could get a fan with a much higher output. i bought a 13" fan from stafford vehicle components earlier on this year for £65 nearly double the output of the one you have in mind. Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 13, 2006 Ah cool, that was the place I was looking for a link too... thanks for that! So did you fit a 13" fan onto the standard 205 radiator as I thought it looked like you could only fit a 10" fan as they are quite short.
johno_78 2 Posted August 15, 2006 the fan i bought was for a mk2 escort not the 205. i'm sure you could get a 13" fan on the rad, just not with the cowling with it. i would guess that two smaller fans could fit side by side, but i haven't measured up to see. this would be best as they could be set to activate at different temps to avoid overcooling as well as overheating. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted August 15, 2006 I think these are a push type but what about one of the slimline T16 type rad fans? £60 +vat from Special tuning but I'm sure the same fan can be found elsewhere for less. Graham.
