Lowering The Rad

Recommended Posts

Jonmurgie

Am lowering the rad on my track car at the moment and the bottom mounts are easy... I'm after some ideas on hw those who have also lowered the rad have fixed the TOP of the radiator?! Or have you even bothered, cause I was thinking you could just use the water pipes to hold it in position up the top...

So any ideas or better still pictures on how you've fixed the top of the radiator in ;)

In the end I went for a pretty unorthodox top fixing for mine, but it seems to have worked well so far, and the rad doesn't move at the top.

The bottom bracket I made was slightly angled, which meant if you pulled the top of the rad towards the front of the car it was slightly sprung, and had some resistance on it.

So, I drilled the std cowling inside in 2 places, attached a bracket twisted through about 60 degrees or so and then bent the bracket over to hold the rad in place - I added some wiring tape to stop it from damaging the rad.

To attach it all, the fan cowling with bracket just slides over the rad and when you pull the rad back the bracket holds it in place - works a treat ;)

Here are some pics to better explain it

It looks a bit heath robinson, but it honestly works well and doesn't move, it cost nowt to make and the double bolts stop it from turning.
