405 Mi16 2.0 (s16) Key-pad Lockout

Recommended Posts

B1ack_Mi16

Have just wired in a MP3.2 405 2.0 16v engine into a mates 309.

We first tried to fire it up without any key-pad, as we didn't have one and was just hoping it should work..

Well, it certainly didn't.

We have no idea of the code, and today I got a keypad wired in.

When we then turned on ignition the red light was lit, and I guess that's how it's supposed to be?

Anyway I just tried to punch some codes and it would just beep 4 times after each attempt.

After the 3'rd attempt it beeped "forever" and I guess it locked us out.

When turning ignition off and on now both the red and the green lights are on, is this how it's supposed to be when it's locked us out?

And at last.. what do I have to do to be able to punch more codes now?

Is it a time-delay, or can you do some sort of "trick" so you can enter the codes again with only the red light lit on the pad?

Thanks for any help on this matter.

yep when you turn the ignition on the red light will be one the key pad. then it turns to green light when proper code is entered.

both lights on could be locked out as you said. dont know how to get it unlocked again.

maybe disconnect the battery for awhile?

iirc if u dnt know the code you need to pay for it to be unlocked.if you know the code unlocking is very simple.id suggest an ecu from the scrappy.

Are you hoping to stumble across the right code randomly-you could be there sometime.

Some poeple say you can buypass keypad by putting a + signal to a

certain pin on the ECU, never witnessed this with my own eyes though!

I've read that in several posts too, but can't really believe it's that simple.

I'm just wondering if I've wired in the keypad correct for now..

Need to try to get hold of the code somehow.

this is the wiring i used for my car. I had to get the ecu code read.

ive only had to key my code in once, as it never re-arms with this wiring setup

pin1=bmf4j battery live

pin2 = nil

pin3 = 820 diag plug (match with number on wire to ecu)

pin4 = 821 diag plug (match with number on wire to ecu. sometimes joined

with pin3 on keypad a short way up the loom)

pin5 = 1031 live while cranking, probably ignore for now

pin6 = nil

pin7 = nil

pin8 = 824 (match with number on wire to ecu or ignore for now)

pin9 = 6219 central locking, state changes when locked, ignore for now, may

prevent rearming if left off

pin10 = nil

pin11 = 3050 (not sure, probably central locking. ignore for now)

pin12 = nil

pin13 =c02 ignition live

pin14 = 822 output to main relay coil. live when immob deactivated (max

300ma, recommend use bulb to limit current while testing)

pin15 = m8200 mass (earth)

That's the wiring info I used, found in several other posts.

I only connected up pin1, pin3, pin4, pin13, pin 14 and pin15 and left the others untouched.

Where did you get the ECU code read, and what did it cost?

a place called radiocode i think, but that was many years ago! cost about £50+vat and was a 2 day turn around

the guy who read the code told me that i had to get a keypad with a big motorola chip in, and he provided me with the wiring info u have used

Ok, I'm not sure about the key-pad actually, if it's the correct one or not.

We have two different ones, but I guess it's working when the red light comes on and it beeps 4 times when wrong code is entered. The one we've used now is from a Citroen XM 2.5 TD.

It seem to have an extra letter on one of the buttons compared to the 406 one.

On the top-right button there's only one letter, but on the middle right-one there's two letters marking the button. (Cant remember what letters, S, C or something).

The 406 one that we haven't used yet seem to only have one letter for each of the "programming buttons".

I think you'd be looking to find some one who has one of these:

Yes, looks like that ;)

That's the exact same key-pad as I got from the XM too, with the "D/N" letters on one of the buttons.

Interesting, but that won't work if I don't have the code in the first place, or what?

on the 306's, you can leave it half an hour and it lets you type in the code again, not sure if the 405 is the same though :)

2 B1ack mi16: well really don't know for sure as I never had my ECU locked.

You should try but I doubt it will work on locked ECU...

Theres a number of places that do unlocking, iirc someone said theres one that costs £70 now, but the one i was going to use was the ecu doctor (google).

Some news here.

Well, didn't manage to sort out a used ECU, so my mate bought a new one at Peugeot.

Key-pad is still wired in the way Fuga suggest.

With old ECU:

Both lights, upper (red) and lower (green) light up every time the ignition is turned on, indicating some error with the key-pad wiring? At least that's what the manual suggest when both lights are lit.

Key-pad started acting like this after we put the code in wrong 3 or 4 times, before that only the red light was lit and key-pad beeped 3 or 4 times each time we inserted the wrong code.

Startermotor will turn, but no fuelpump or ignition activities.

With new ECU:

First time ignition turned on, both red and green light on, hm..!

Anyway, as suggested in the key-pad manual the standard code from factory is 0001.

So I punched 0001 but nothing really happened, still one red and one green light.

Tried to crank engine over but still no fuel or spark.

Turned ignition off.. and then on again.

Now only the green light is lit!

Cranking over engine, but still no fuel or spark though.

I hope this is only indicating that the ECU was unlocked when I entered the code 0001 the first time, and that due to the keypad beeing wired like it is it can't re-arm the ECU as I think Fuga wrote that somewhere.

Anyway, when the green light is lit, the ECU really shold be unlocked?

Guess it's a problem with some of the wiring on the multirelay now.

Anyone know if this assumptions are correct?

Thanks B)

You can definitly bypass the keypad, Ive done it before. If you pull out the keypad you have the black connector which contains 8 - 10 wires. By using the list fuga posted, identfiy which pin-outs require 12v constant.

If you think about this logically, the code is stored inside the keypad memory not ECU... people will disagree and say its not possible. But think about it, the keypad contains a latch switch circuit and a memory database.... Surely if the code was inside the ECU, then the keypad would only need the keys and a decoding device, not a latch switch circuit.

I have seen quite a few ECU's which have been unlocked but what I found out on a few turbo ecu's is that there is an additional wire bridging 12v to 2 other pins (this was done inside the ecu case) And it seems that the pin which was bridged was directly connected to the keypad (wire 27 - if i remember correctly)...

Just my input, but it can definitly be bypassed, been done!

This place could be very usefull to a few people in this thread. £45 quid to read the code off a Pug keypad. Only thing that worrys me slightly, is i'm sure i heard somewhere that the ECU & pad are matched, so if you have the ECU from one car, and a pad from another, even knowing the pin wont start the car. Anyone know if this is correct, cus i aint got a clue!

As regards bypassing the pad, jacobs53 is right, I've seen it done on a 306 that a mate brought from a scrappy yard. Problem was, he didnt have the keypad pin, so could'nt get the fecker to start. Another mate, who's a mobile mechanic, bypassed the keypad immobiliser in a mater of minutes! I'll try and get hold of him, and ask how he did it.
