Gaz Suspension And What Springs?

Recommended Posts

Owain1602

Im thinking of buying a set of Gaz fixed height adjustable suspension kit for my car. Its going to be used for stages and Im really thinking of buying the full coilover kit for £440 but i have never done anything like this before and i dont want to spend too much to find i dont like it so I think i will buy the fixed height kit, it'll only be around £200 hopefully. What do you think?

Also, I will need springs to go with this kit, what springs do you guys recomend to go with these, any experiences positive or negative would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the coil over kit with the 275 lbs springs and the spring rate is too high for normal road use. I'm going to get some lower rate springs maybe 225lbs. as soon as i find out the dimensions of the coil over spring.

Have a search on the site for Gaz and see the many comments, If I was rallying I would use the Billies any day especially at the back end where the damping is critical

Mine came with apex springs - 15/20% uprated, about 20mm lower than stock on my car. Ride is just as good as standard on them, but I don't have the front struts on yet, so can't really comment that much on the damping. Some of the distributers can have the damping specced to your choice though. My rears feel just about spot on for fast road use without picking up potholes etc, but until the fronts are on I can't give a comprehensive report. If I'd change anything I'd say a tiny bit more compression damping on the back, maybe 5-10% or so, would make them perfect for on the road. Might try that at some point down the line.

You'll have to move fast though as the fixed spring dampers are being phased out.

For stage allying definitely go with the billies as Miles said. I spoke to GAZ directly and they didn't really see there stuff as suitable for rallying.

That's a point, didn't notice you were stage rallying. The Gaz stuff is more aimed at fast road and track cars than the loose stuff.

thanks guys.

Which bilsteins would you go for then? Cheapest ive found the coilovers is £740 just for the 2 fronts, from AB Motorsport. How do the Group N ones fair then?

These are one Ebay

How do the black and the yellow bilsteins perform? I see there is a much thicker rod on the yellow ones. I dont know really but I really would like bilstein over anything else but not sure or prices really.

Cheers

Not sure on that front strut, as Bilstein sell the inserts for the rally car's only and not the sturt for some odd reason, I know allot of people do make the bodie themselves thou.

Have a search around the site as there's many point's about these dampers, Qucik plug if you need any prices drop me a PM

Give Shenpar a call. They will do the 2 front coilovers with either the forest or gravel Bilstein insert and a choice of spring length / poundage for about £500+vat.

Or you can use companies like Compbrake to source some of the bits ie strut bodies, upper and lower spring pan etc. Then go to a supplier of Bilstein inserts ie Shenpar, Miles, AB, WMMS and see who will give the best price (everyone advertises at £120ish each). Source your own springs. Job done.

EDIT : You will not be dissappointed in the Bilstein setup.

After I good search I suggest De Carbon Performance shocks for the 205 and Apex or Vogtland springs 30mm.

Nice setup and not too much expensive for road use.
