pp205 17 Posted August 6, 2006 Hi all, had just got to work yesterday morning when the car decided to dump all the water out through the bottom of the left hand side of the inlet manifold. After getting the car home (on the back of a tow truck!) have taken the inlet off to find that the gasket is knackered, with the water coming out of the hole which is normally blocked off by the inlet manifold. Will just replacing the gasket sort this or could there be any more sinister problems lurking beneath?! Any help from previous experiences would be appreciated! Guest CB-Dave Posted August 6, 2006 it should be sorted by the new gasket, but there's a slim possibility that the mating face of the inlet manifold is warped and without it being skimmed flat it won't seal properly on the new gasket. pp205 17 Posted August 7, 2006 Thanks for that, have checked and it was ok. Have put the new gasket on and have no water leakage. Just seem to have a lot of air trapped in the engine, but the bleed valve by the thermostat has been snapped off at some stage in the engines life! Grrr No worries abut this bleed valve being out of commission. As long as the one in the top heater hose is operational you'll bleed the cooling system no problem. Leave the rad cap off as the engine warms up and leave it off until the fan cuts in and all air will go. Put sone occasional revs on to well and truely stir up the water. If push comes to shove you can always slip the small pipe off between the head and TB to bleed. It's messy to do this but rarely necessary in my experience. You may have a blockage here though as the other TB hose goes to the top of the expansion bottle so is open to atmosphere anyway when the cap is off and therefore mostly self-bleeding.
