ecksstore 0 Posted August 3, 2006 This post may sound daft, but I am after a cheap reliable 4x4 diesel motor and whilst racking my brain about where to get one I came up with this gem of an idea.. whadda ya think? Would it be possible to put a 1.9TD engine into a MI16 4x4 to create a 4x4TD 405 If it would what do you reckon it would drive like? Might be a bit dead And also is the shell the same between a 4x4 405 and a normal standard 405? I would guess the back end and tunnel is different but maybe someone knows for sure

Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted August 4, 2006 This post may sound daft, but I am after a cheap reliable 4x4 diesel motor and whilst racking my brain about where to get one I came up with this gem of an idea.. whadda ya think? It's a daft idea Would it be possible to put a 1.9TD engine into a MI16 4x4 to create a 4x4TD 405 Yes, the TD engine fits the gearbox. However I would put the diesel gears into the 4x4 gearbox as well. If it would what do you reckon it would drive like?Might be a bit dead Will drive fine probably... And also is the shell the same between a 4x4 405 and a normal standard 405?I would guess the back end and tunnel is different but maybe someone knows for sure The shells are completely different between a normal 405 and a 4x4. The rear is very different and the tunnel is wider to accomodate the propshaft and exhaust. Even the seat subframes are different!
