How Much Is One Click Worth On Rear Ride Height?

Recommended Posts

tidypug

I've decided to re-set the rear ride height of my car as it was running pretty much on the bump stops. The problem i have now is that i'm not sure if i have raised the car by one or two splines.

how much is one spline on the torsion bar worth in ride height?

Anthony

One spline is about 35mm, give or take

hmm, looks like i may have done it 2 splines. Its a nice comfortable ride but it does feel a bit lofty now

I thought you had M@tt's dummy shock (as I was going to borrow it!!)

It depends on which end you use as the spline method, large splines (centre tube end) are as Anthony said about 30-35mm afaik (never used this method) but smaller splines radius arm end) will be less.

Your beam is was rebuilt by Wurzel iirc so freeing both ends of the torsion bars & using the best method (distance between shock bolt centres, with m@tts dummy shock) will get you any adjustment you desire.

I've attached a picture of my dummy shock, on a 1.5mm pitch thread & can be adjusted from 285-315mm approximately.

Super Josh

Also means that you set both sides exactly the same too.

right i see, so i should be able to lower it down a bit more now then as i pull out the torsion bars to do it. My main problem is that i messed up big time when i changed the beam mountings. I kept using bigger and bigger hammers to get the old bushes out. When i came to re-fit the beam i found that i had managed to twist the mounting bracket around the tube itself meaning i couldn't get the beam to mount up. I did manage to untwist the mounts but by the looks of it i still haven'e got them quite straight.

Here's pic of how it was before i increased the height, does the difference in height look like its a spline out?

I was using M@tts (thanks mate:))dumby shocker and had to re-adjust it to get it to fit the other side.

Here's a pic of the car now i have reset the ride height, i think its a little too high

I have also noticed that one wheel sits further out than the other, what can cause this?

sorry for the long thread but i can't seem to sort anything with the car at the min. :)

Which rear beam mountings did you change to use a hammer?

If you twisted a rear mount frame things don't look good but you shouldn't have to adjust the dummy shock to fit one side to the other, thats the whole reason for havng one so you get both sides identical.

Set them both to the same distance & rotate the torision bar until it slides into the radius arm & tube fitting smoothly (very little resistance) but this might need a small amount of assitance if they don't match instantly but less than 1/2 a turn on the dummy shock should be enough.
