brianthemagical 1 Posted August 2, 2006 is it possible to swap the gears over from 1.9 to 1.6 be3 'box's. i want the 1.6 1-4 ratios ant then the 1.9 5th. is this possible and if so how difficult, is it a diy job, any idea of prices for a pro job? thanks for the help. Sandy 191 Posted August 2, 2006 The easiest way to acheive that is to simply fit a taller fifth to the 1.6 box, or simpler still, buy an Mi box, which has a taller (overall ratios) first, but 2/3/4th are pretty much the same as 1.6, and 5th is taller. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted August 2, 2006 The 1.6 and 1.9 share the same ratio's for 2nd to 5th gear only first differs and the final drive which is where the differance is, But as said the Mi box is good if your after a good all-rounder
SimonJ 2 Posted August 2, 2006 2nd to 5th are the same on 1.6 and 1.9 boxes so you really need to be thinking of a Mi box if you're going to be doing any mixing.
brianthemagical 1 Posted August 3, 2006 thats all slightly embarrassing then. so would a 1.6 box with a 1.9 final drive make me slower or faster 0-60? i always thought the idea to change just the box to make the car faster or am i mistaken? only reason i'm asking is because a friend is road rallying an ax, concequently he's modifying it and i don't want it to be faster than my gti, not that i'm the jealous type. thanks for the advise? Miles 331 1 Cars Posted August 3, 2006 For the quickest 0-60 you want the highest Final Drive you can get, 4.8 is around this but at £500.00 expensive, Adding a MI CWP to your box which is a good way of getting this
Guest Fangoria Posted August 10, 2006 the MI16 CWP is 4.4 so a good thing to fit to make the car quicker but you lose out top end, car revs high at 70/80mph too, i've got a 4.4 in my pug 205 road rally car
