Driveshaft Length And Knocking Noise!

Recommended Posts

Powers

I recently changed my LHS driveshaft on my Mi16 and after fitting i have noticed a knocking sound, especially at low speeds and LHS bends (Occurs all the time so i have stopped driving it!). Every other suspension component is new and torqued to the right setting so i assumed it was the new driveshaft. Therefore i presume that i have been sold the wrong one possibly a 309 one. Hence this is why i want to know the length. The LHS one i have is roughly 610mm.

If anyone could help i would again be very grateful.

Cheers.

When I ran a 309 LHS driveshaft (the short one) I had problems with right handers where there would be a really bad vibration/knocking through the front end and steering wheel, it drove fine otherwise.

The length of the driveshaft was correct - 567mm from the one end of splines to the other.

I have ordered another one and I will check if the knocking noise is still there tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

I have sinced changed the driveshaft and it is still knocking!!

It can only be two things:

The diff?

Or possibly the intermediate bearing?

Any ideas i am getting desperate now!!!

Anyone! I will get to the bottom of this!

I have sorted out a diff so i will change that over the weekend. Hopefully that will sort it out.

I had this and it turned out to be drop links... Was really surprised the effect they had. Might be worth doing a search on them.

I've now got driveshaft issues and vibration the same as yours, going to replace them as soon as I get them. I had this before and replacing the driveshafts sorted it out.
