methebmxer 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Yeah firstly I'm an idiot for not having a spare key and secondly for closing my bonnet on my key and only noticing when I couldnt get it to close fully after putting all my weight on it and then opening it up to find a nice bent key!. Thats fine I thought. I have a spare ignition barrel anyway and my door locks are disconnected as I use remote locking. So after changing the barrel I go out for a spin and notice the tanks looking a bit low at which point I felt the sudden urge to drive off the nearest cliff!. How the hell was I gonna open the fuel cap?!. So please somebody tell me there is an easy way of getting the cap off.

DaveW 6 Posted July 31, 2006 yeah they come off so easy u might not even need a key!
sorr 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Put the key in a vice and it should straighten up OK.
smckeown 1 Posted July 31, 2006 you dont want crap/metal filings falling into tank, so if drilling etc, take filler hose off and cover funnel to tank
Jrod 7 Posted July 31, 2006 just put a screwdriver inbetween the cap and the car and lever it off, they come off so easily. I'd also say try and put the key in a vice first though.
methebmxer 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Cheers guys, I had a go at bending the key back but it was at a right angle and broke real easy. I did think levering it off would be the answer but thought I'd check incase.

steve@cornwall 100 Posted August 2, 2006 straighten the two halfs as best you can, should still be enough for a key cutter to make a new one,if they are careful putting it together in the vice!
