Hole Near Starter Bracket

Recommended Posts

What is the rectangular hole just to the right and behind of the starter motor bracket?

I have to ask as I just topped up the gearbox oil and when putting the AFM back in I dropped the bolt with the 13mm head and it has disappeared. Spannering with a hangover sucks.

If it has gone in there what would be the consequences of running the car and/or how could I get it out?

ALEX

Could be the timing hole for the flywheel mark.

There is a plate on the base of the gearbox held on with 3 10mm hex heads.

See if you can fish the bolt out through there.

In the end I had that off and the other blanking plates off the flywheel casing. Needed a coathanger and a magnet on a bendy pole to actually get it out. I could see it initially but it was jammed, so I needed the coathanger to move it. I used a little too much force though and it bounced around the case for a bit and took me a while to find again. How to turn a thirty minute job into a three hour job.

I take it that there should be a blanking plate there? I now have a wooden blank held in place by bits of coathanger. Classy.
