Weber Choke Sizes

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just been on Pumarace Engines website - I found it really useful, dont know what you all think..?

Anyway, I have been looking at their chart which suggests idle choke sizes for a power out put.

My 205 8V running twin 45 webers is making 120bhp - not good I know. However, it has a 36mm choke size. According the Puma this should be on a car of 179+ bhp...

Is it worth moving down to a smaller size...I am planning to rebuild bottom end soon and swop the cam so the power will be inreasing, albeit unlikely to 179bhp.

thanks

We think he's a tuning god who knows more about engines than anyone on the planet. He's also kind to animals and always helps old ladies across the road, whether they wanted to cross it or not.

That's a completely unbiased opinion from someone who's never actually met the chap btw.

I've heard he exaggerates a little. :D

I also heard he's very modest. :D

I'm also planning to take the 1.6 engine from the GTi donor I managed to get my hands on and convert it to carbs. After reading the older posts on this topic (since it seems to be a quite popular conversion), I think a pair 40mm Weber DCOE carbs with 34-36mm chokes might be for me. Opinions?

P.S. The PumaRacing site is great, I've learned a lot from it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to actually follow some of the suggestions there soon...

Better too small then too large!! Too large and you will get a weak signal and the metering system will not be able to work correctly because the air speed will be far too low and you'll get flat spots.

These are the figures I have....again for a four cylinder engine with an inlet port per cylinder

displacement 400cc (2 x40 DCOE)

Sports 32 (2 x40 DCOE)

Semi Race 34 (2 x40 DCOE)

Race 7500rpm 36 (2 x40 DCOE)

Race 8500rpm 40 (2 x45 DCOE)

Race 9500rpm 40 (2 x45 DCOE)

displacement 325cc (2 x40 DCOE)

Sports 29 (2 x40 DCOE)

Semi Race 32 (2 x40 DCOE)

Race 7500rpm 34 (2 x40 DCOE)

Race 8500rpm 35 (2 x45 DCOE)

Race 9500rpm 38 (2 x45 DCOE)

This kinda translates ok for my 1294cc Rallye , which as standard runs 34mm chokes and peak power is at 6800rpm.
