SPGTi 2 Posted July 28, 2006 I took the air / oil cooler off my 1.9 8v as I didn't think it was really needed esp. as most of my driving is at night in the winter months. Lately though I have been doing a few summer events with an ambient temp of 20C+ and the oil temp seems to be getting a lot hotter. I use a sump guard so I don't really get any airflow to the sump to help cool the oil down. I have installed a 2nd fan on a switch where the oil cooler is normally mounted so was wondering where else I could fit it. I would also use a sandwich plate with a thermostat in it so that the oil cooler would only start working as the oil hit over 90C. I would need to fit it somewhere quite protected so any little nudges with banks or loose rocks wouldn't damage it cheers Steve
SPGTi 2 Posted July 30, 2006 No one any ideas ????? Steve
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 30, 2006 The cooler should be located in it's own air flow space, Not infront of the Rad etc, Difficult with the std rad cowling in place thou
28CRAIG 2 Posted July 30, 2006 i have made some brackets for mocal and is just under the rad and behind it about in middle of the car.
smckeown 1 Posted July 30, 2006 my mocal is just behind my rad, with a small gap between them. i'd let to believe this is a good location
Jonmurgie 2 Posted July 30, 2006 i'd let to believe this is a good location Not from what I've heard... Mine certainly won't be going behind the rad, I did like the look of where they had put the cooler on your install Sean but after speaking to a few other people it seems that it's not a very good place after all! boombang 2 Posted July 30, 2006 Mine is going slap bang in the middle of the bumper in the cut out - as far as I can make out its the only place with really good airflow on a 309/205. If I bust it i'll just have to bypass it - plus the coolers themselves aren't that expensive if I front end it - chances are there would be plenty of other bits to worry about. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 30, 2006 This is the best place to put the cooler, Race Proven to reduce temps quite a bit compared to infront of Water Rad's etc, Most people I know do stick the coolers there, Even I did years ago but live and learn
SPGTi 2 Posted July 31, 2006 Will not be able to mount it there Miles. I was thinking about in the bumper and meshing over a vent hole but I am still worried about busting the cooler if I nudge a bank which will mean rally over and a long wait for the tow truck. Maybe make a bracket and use a couple of the gearbox bolts to suspend it there ? Will be protected by sump guard, maybe cooling won't be the best but should help a bit ?????
