Will It Ever Run? Sourcing Parts

Recommended Posts

Been having a nightmare getting my 1.9 205 on the road after months of messing about firstly my gearbox died then shortly after so did the engine so I finaly changed both and after numerous little problems keeping it off the road I took it for it's first drive just the other week which ended in being towed home by the RAC :)

With advice from the RAC guy and the forum I came to the conclusion the problem was ignition related and the distributor and ignition amp seemed to be the most likely suspects. So me being me and by that I mean a tad hasty when it comes to getting stuck in taking things apart, the next thing I knew my dizzy was in pieces and was'nt looking too healthy. A friend suggested testing my AFM and I had it looked at and found it is also dead.

Now getting to the point.... I went trawling the net for places I might find these parts (dizzy & AFM) as I asumed they would be readily available as with many parts for the pug but ebay turned up nothing and mail order places want over £100 for recon ones!. Is this a reasonable price and would I be crazy to buy them?.

Am I likely to find them elsewhere very easily for less cash?. I just do'nt want to pay out and then find that I could get them easy for not very much. I looked in the for sale section and did'nt find much for either.

After reading through the post Id be suprised if the dizzy, the ignition amp and the AFM all went capput at the same time and would start by testing the loom and tachymetric relay, the relay in particular if the car has been off the road for a long time.

Also before shelling out big bucks on 'recon' or new parts get some known good second hand parts off here, that way you can be sure it was that part that was proiblematic ;)
