Help - Hardly No Brakes

Recommended Posts

pa402

Hello,

I have just replaced my all discs and pads on my 1.9, and was in the process of changing my flexi-hoses, when I damaged the copper pipe on the front passenger side (twisted it) as the dam union nut wouldnt undo ;) .

So I plan to get it sorted this sat but that requires a 30 mile drive, with little (or no brakes) :( .

At present the brakes hardly work, and that front wheel with the damaged hose didnt brake at all. I have bleed that wheel but that seemed to make the brakes worse (ie peddle on floor with no or very little effect).

Anyone got any ideas if it is just the damaged pipe causing this or something else (as I not tested or bleed any other wheel yet)?

Cheers

Paul

if you have a damaged pipe leaking brake fluid just dont drive it! simple! its dangerous to you and anyone else on the road!

if however the pipe isnt leeking yet, sounds like you need to bleed them through properly and check for contamination on the pads.

also you may need to pump them to push the caliper pistons back into contact with the pads

DONT BODGE THE BRAKES!!!!!

Sounds llike it's kinked. Take the damaged pipe off, even if it breaks the pipe. Then get a lift from somebody to the nearest garage and get them to make a copy of it. Refit it and bleed the brakes... job done arms folded.

Same as doing 47mph in a 40mph zone?-- Should be at least double, if with KNOWN faulty brakes methinks a short period as pedestrian should be in order!!!!

Doesn't impair efficiency though, does it? Just sounds like cr@p and kills the discs! (better than killing a child)

Brakes & bodge really don't go together on any vehicle, fix it properly.

Measure the pipe & go to any local garage that can make a brake pipe up & get them to make you one, fit it yourself & bleed the brakes again & see if its all working before you even thinkof driving it on the road.

Graham.
