richard1981 0 Posted July 25, 2006 I reversed off my drive on my way to work this morning, went to put it into 1st to drive off and I had no gears at all. The gear stick just moves around freely. I had a quick look and I can see the gear linkage out under the exhaust manifold. Will this just push back in where ever it is meant to go? Why would it have just popped out in the first place?! TEKNOPUG 3 Posted July 25, 2006 Yes. They are rubbish. Get some Grp A ones with retaining clips.
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted July 25, 2006 If it's poped off on its own it will pop off on its own again. New ones only cost 10-15 quid.
jackherer 543 Posted July 25, 2006 in the short term fill out the ball joints with something to keep them on, I've used a folded over disposable glove from a petrol station forecourt in the past and I've heard of someone else using chewing gum which hardens into the right shape! steve@cornwall 100 Posted July 25, 2006 (edited) I reversed off my drive on my way to work this morning, went to put it into 1st to drive off and I had no gears at all. Why would it have just popped out in the first place?! Also check that the joint is securely bolted to the subframe- turning through 90 degrees may move the worn portion out of harms way for a month or two as well! Don't overtighten though, I've seen them snap. The larger linkage bolts to the frame- under a clip on heatshield- this is the one directly under the manifold so wondered if this is the one you refer to.
