Recommended Posts

Hi im after peoples opinion on whether or not this mi16 block is usable basicly theres a number of small pits under where the linner seats in the block clearly coroded by antifreaze. Its lost the shape where the linner meets the block compared top my other block so opinions please?

I'd have said yes as the rubber liner seal should seal up agains that anyhow... though I'm prepared to be proved wrong on that!

Well mat at Qep is going to be building the engine i dont want to sink all that money in to an engine that has a weak spot. Think im going to have to ask the man himself?

Theres also a bit more around this seat aswell.

Good man, Matt will be able to sort you out and I'm sure won't use anything that he feels might compromise an engine build :)

Worst that can happen is that coolant would leak into the sump.

If you put it together leave the sump till last and fill it up with coolant.

If it does leak what you need is some lime scale to biuld up and bung it up. Radweld could work though?.

the liners seal seat looks ok to me, so Id chance it.

It's only work if if you have to take it apart again.

Better than watching Big brother or any other crap on TV.

.

Edit just read your not doing it yourself.

Yes ask the man who is building it.

Give it a polish up with an oiled scotch bright pad, this may take some time but will give you the perfect finish for sealing and also you will then be able to see if the metal is pitted or just got a build up of deposits.

I believe too many people worry about that seal as if the seal is seated correctly minor surface imperfections will make no difference. I say this as there are massive forces holding the liner in place and it only has to hold very low pressure in real terms.

i used some joining compound i think its called was a while ago but basically doesnt dry out and helps seal the liner you would need to have the liners pressed out though if they ever needed to be removed as its sticky stuff
