Rose Jointed Track Rod Ends

Recommended Posts

Phil

I have just been on the phone to Compbrake to order some top mounts and he also recommended that I should change my standard track rod ends to some of their 'Formula Track Rod Ends' as it is a common weak point on the 205 for them to snap.

I thought this was odd as i'd never heard of it before, and a search on here didn't reveal anything.

I can understand on a rally car, but my car is purely for track days (allbeit on slicks) and i'm sure standard rod ends should be ok for that?

Anyone have any opinions on this?

Usually, rose jointed ends are used on adjustable camber wishbones. I know that slicks can increase the stress on suspension components massively but I wouldn't expect the ball joint end to snap. It may wear more quickly but that's about it.

I've been unfortunate enough to hit a curb with the front wheel side on (snow on road slid into curb) and it knackered a wishbone bush but the balljoint was fine.

Others may comment but I've not heard of snapping ball joints being a common problem.

I've never heard of standard track rod ends snapping, and afaik everyone in the Challenge uses standard.

I had a big crash last year that broke most of my front suspension (and the rest of the car) - snapped a bottom balljoint pin, snapped the top spindle off a competition strut insert, buckled the wheel, bent the track rod and ARB drop link, twisted the subframe into a crazy shape and smashed the steering rack casing into 3 pieces!!! :) But apart from split gaiters the track rod ends were unharmed! So I'd say if anything they are the strongest part of 205 front suspension!!

never heard of snapped track rod ends on track (or road for that matter) - pretty catastrophic!

i'm sure that if it were a suspect component, it'd be top on everyone's list to upgrade before going out on track

that said, full slicks will generate alot more grip than moulded slicks (are they alot wider than standard too? -and how stiff is your suspension?)

are there any saloon racers on this forum who might be able to comment?

If you are on slicks and giving it proper beans and have big manly brakes, it might be worth it just as a longevity thing. Otherwise not worth it really unless you just want the ease
