Coolant Routing Dilema?

Recommended Posts

Owain1602

Hi, im going to be running carbs and i need to pass the new routing of the coolant hoses. I have stripped interior too so the heater matrix is gone. What i have done now is:

Pipes with the metal section driver side wing goes from that small plastic block at the back of the engine to the bottom of the rad.

The heater matrix connections in the plastic block i have just connected the 2 ends together with a U piece.

The small connection at the top of the coolant bottle has a long thin pipe going under the carbs to a small connection at the top driver side of the rad.

The larger connection at the top of the coolant bottle i have blanked off.

The connection at the bottom of the coolant bottle goes in to the pipe coming out of the side of the thermostat unit, so facing the passenger side wing by where the SAD normally goes.

The small metal connection by the bleed screw facing the front has been blanked off.

The pipe coming from the plastic connection where the thermostat is situated goes in to the top passenger side of the rad.

What do you guys think of this, any improvements recomended? Current rad is leaking ;) gonna have to get an alloy one i think. Thanks guys.

Thats all wrong and will lead to problems

1. Pipes with the metal section driver side wing goes from that small plastic block at the back of the engine to the bottom of the rad.

Correct

2. The heater matrix connections in the plastic block i have just connected the 2 ends together with a U piece.

Wrong, The pipe from the expansion bottle needs to go into one, The old heater hose can be blanked off

3. The small connection at the top of the coolant bottle has a long thin pipe going under the carbs to a small connection at the top driver side of the rad.

Correct

4. The larger connection at the top of the coolant bottle i have blanked off.

Wrong, this needs to go onto the pipe at the top of the stat housing, This lets any air out the system

5. The connection at the bottom of the coolant bottle goes in to the pipe coming out of the side of the thermostat unit, so facing the passenger side wing by where the SAD normally goes.

Wrong, See above

6. The small metal connection by the bleed screw facing the front has been blanked off.

Wrong See above

7. The pipe coming from the plastic connection where the thermostat is situated goes in to the top passenger side of the rad

Correct

Thanks a lot. So i need to remove the U piece from the plastic block at the back and blank one off and connect the other to the bottom of the coolant bottle??

The large connection at the top of the coolant bottle needs to go to the larger metal pipe at side of the thermostat unit or to the little metal pipe by the bleed screw? If i do that, one of these 2 pipes will have nowhere to go.

Can i connect the large one on the top of the coolant bottle to the large one on the side of the thermostat unit,(the pipe facing the battery) and blank the little one by the bleed screw off after bleeding the system? That should work shouldnt it?

Thanks for your expert knowledge.
