Wurzel 16 Posted July 22, 2006 This is a BE3 gearbox which is actually from a 306 TD. The problem I'm having is that it won't select third gear. The clutch is brand new, and I've just replaced the three gear link rods for brand new items. They are set length and cannot be adjusted. The clutch cable (self adjusting gizmo) is also brand new. Gearbox oil replaced at clutch change. Going into first, second, fourth, fifth and reverse are fine, no crunching at all. Clutch disengages drive normally etc Any ideas why I can't get third? When I attempt to select the gear, it crunches a little bit but feels like it's engaged, let the clutch out though and it grinds like a good un and pops out. I'm stumped. Just a little more info though, before it was given to me to sort out, the owner couldn't disengage the clutch (assembled incorrectly when he changed the engine) and resorted to ramming it in first gear to get going As first gear isn't effected, I wasn't too sure if this has any cause to it but maybe it has? Any gearbox gurus (Miles) out there who can help me or at least give some suggestions?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 22, 2006 It could be that the teeth have been striped on 3rd, Very rare and normally only happens on the 6 speed box. If you can select all the other gears that means the selectors OK, might be worth trying it by hand onthe box itself and see what it feels like.
Wurzel 16 Posted July 22, 2006 Ok, thanks for the advice there Miles. I'll have a crack at it later if the weather clears up If I can select third by hand (so to speak) I guess it's got to be a selector issue rather than internal mechanics?
