Removal Of The Factory Peugeot Shopping Trolley Spoiler

Recommended Posts

MikeT

I am looking to buy another 205 which is a fantastic car but unfortunately has one of those nasty factory shopping trolley handle style spoilers on. Is there any way to remove this easily without the need of respraying / filling holes etc? Or would it just be easier to source a good standard bootlid and fit that?

I have no idea how this type of spoiler was fixed onto the boot..

Cheers

Mike

Its 4 bolts that hold it on, undo the nuts from behind the boot and the spoiler will pop right off...This will leave 4 holes of course but if you dont want to fill tem you can get plastic 'bungs' that urm...bung in there. I've seen this on a white boot, colour coding the plastic may be more difficult however.

if its not a rare colour id just buy a boot lid! saves welding up/filling/painting the whole boot.

My boot used to have one of those. The previous owner had a crack at filling and painting but the filler has started to crack.

I'm just going to replace the boot as I can;t be arsed faffing around with paintwork these days.

They weren't factory but a dealer option which explains the mess made on some cars when they were fitted.

My old white diesel had one of these kits fitted & when I removed the boot spoiler it had figure of 8 holes drilled in the hatch. I just covered the holes with aluminium tape & they stayed that way until after I sold the car & ultimately it was scrapped.

If you are friendly with welder & a spray painter then get the holes filled with weld, ground flat & smoothed before painting. A slightly more solid fix.

Graham.

Ok thanks, the guy whos selling it said it was fitted in the factory which I thought was a bit strange, WHY would anyone pay good money to put one of these onto their brand new 205gti?:unsure:

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who works in a body shop so to sort the boot and spray it it will probably just be easier & cheaper to get another one in decent condition and spray that.

Thanks

Mike

iirc these go through 2 skins on the tailgate so you cant get to the backs of the exterior holes.

I got a new tailgate for mine.

If you get a new tg when you remove it the wiring can be left in place as there is a yellow clip 3 inchs from the left top wiring. Also is easiest to leave the washer tube in place, disconnect from the pump and pull through. Swap the locks and your done. No need to worry if the donor car hasnt got central locking and yours has cos the plug on the loom is still there to connect it.

Why remove it ? ;) Personally i wouldn't bother swopping the boot lid its too much hassle and it doesn't look that bad in the flesh. Also fends of motorbikes from ramming you :D

I think there is a sorrento tailgate at 205parts.com at the moment that may be useful. It is on a car at the mo so not sure if it is available but the car has a big scratch down the side.

I used to want one of these for my 205 back in the late 90's. Why would anyone do it.... well it is a bit like wearing kipper ties, there was a time and a place you looked the mutts nuts with one of these!!! Not anymore!

My silver 1.9 has got one of those nasty things on as well.

I´ll just weld the holes shut and let our local paint guy have a go at spraying the repaired section.

Problem is to get the colour right, so I´ll try to damage as little paint as possible.

Leaving this odd rubber-thing in place is no option.....
