Guest Darragh Posted July 20, 2006 hi, this coming august i am entered into the ramshackle rally 2006 to Krakow in Poland. the idea is to buy a car for £100 and drive it 1500 mile across europe. i have chosen to do this in a 309gti which i bought a shell for £75 and fitted a turbo diesel engine from a 'P' reg 306. i am raising money for the White Lodge Centre in surrey. this is a care home for mentally handicapt children and adults. everything has gone in really sweet apart from the clutch cable (the clutch is a pull type where the release bearing is connected to the pressure plate). i fitted the cable from the 306 as i thought it would work but as it turns out, the pedal has not got enough leverage to disengage the cluch properly, in other words when i push the pedal in it does not pull the cable enough. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can anyone help me! i need to find a solution! i was hoping that the 309 1700TD might have the same flywheel so i could get a push type clutch to fit instead of the pull type. or i was thinking that i could maybe fit a 306 clutch pedal, but there is next to no room around the lever that pulls the cable in the pedal box. can anyone shed some light on my head wrecking problem????? i am at a complete stalemate! inferno 1 Posted July 20, 2006 (edited) the 306 TD clutch is the same size as an mi16 clutch. also you can change the arms on the gearbox to convert from the later clutch type your talking about to a earlyer push type. this is common with GTI 6 boxs. some choose to use the gti 6 pull type clutch as i did. also i used this type of clutch with no dramas in my citroen zx, which uses the same type of clutch and box as the 309 gti, ive never had drama with clutch cables, so could i suggest u try adjusting the cable? maybe a photo of the position of the cable on the top of the box, and arm would be usefull... inferno 1 Posted July 20, 2006 I would think about the cable arangement on the box first before you take it out, IIRC mine felt funny at first, but i used the gti6 box with its intended clutch, on a zx which uses the same box as the gti. therefore no reason why your setup shouldnt work... pics would just point out if something obviouse was missing in the cable arangement, causing less travel.
