matty_gti 20 Posted July 20, 2006 hi all, just asking how i go about removing the wetliners and the pistons. Ive tried a quick tug of the liners to just simply pull them out the top but they dont want to move. do i have to remove the crank, then pull the pistons out either the top or the bottom then pull the liners out. and on putting them back, what order do they go?, Thanks. Jonmurgie 2 Posted July 20, 2006 The liners shoudl come out with the pistons in them... though it may be easier to remove the pistons first and these will only come up upwards. Often the liners can kind of 'corrode' into place so I find turning the block on it's side (assuming it's on an engine stand) and then using a block of wood tap the underside of the liner until it's loose enough to pull out. pug309twin40s 1 Posted July 20, 2006 yep as jon sais the liners will proberbly need hitting from underneath them to get them out especially if theyve been in awhile. their stuck in pretty solid usually. but go easily with hitting them that you dont damage the liners. matty_gti 20 Posted July 21, 2006 ok, so i either take the liners and pistons out the top at the same time then seperate them or take the pistons out the top, then tap out the liners if there not really stuck in. On refiiting whats the best way?, because i know you need to measure the protrusion of the liner and i dont know if you put that in first, then measure it then tap in the pistion or tap the piston into liner throuh the top then push down on the block so i can attach the piston to the crank then tap the liner down into its proper place?. ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted July 21, 2006 I use the handle of a hammer from inside the block, then tap that hammer up with another. Dont use anything too hard as you can damage the liner.
