pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted July 20, 2006 i have been offered a xzantia engine from a m reg auto car , (no engine codes as yet) , and was wondering what peoples oppinions were on this engine vs the xu9 mi , are they the same engine? i have done a search and cannot find and clear answers on powers figures , i understand there are two types of xu10 engines offering two different power figures (135 bhp and 155 bhp) what would a m reg one have ? also what parts are interchangable between the two i.e manifolds heads etc.
Pug_101 0 Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) Not positive on this, but I thought the lower power was due to Manifolds, ECU and maybe cams. Were you thinking of moding it or running standard? pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted July 21, 2006 the plan was always to run emerald management on bike tb's with maybe a change to the inlet cam , if the only difference is what you say then i will be ditching the cr*p stuff anyhow, so you think the head is the same? , i know the stroke is different 86x 86 i believe and i noticed alot of people swopping cranks ,but thats not for me i think i will leave the bottom end alone (apart from a standard rebuild) . the engine is in an auto though is that right? and would i have to change the flywheel/clutch to go to a be1 box? Sorry mate I was answering the reason why XU10's make 135bhp and 155bhp. The XU9 engine (I am talking about the 16V version) is quite different from the Xu10 engine the main being that XU9's have alloy blocks and 83mm bores. The main part that can be used from one to the other (performance wise) is the head (complete) and some say the XU10 is better, but is designed for a 86mm bore so there are some issues involving head gaskets. Also the crank as you have mentioned. The XU10 engine is the stronger of the 2 and will take more power, but the XU9 is lighter. If you plan to only carry out light performance gains I would say go with the XU9 because of the weight issue, but if you plan to go mad then the XU10 would probably be the better long term bet. There both good engines so either would make a great 205 16V. Check this link out PARKERS Seems only did 135bhp. Also think there's another current thread running about Xantia engines. I would do some more searching as it all been covered many times before.
