Exhaust Rattling

Recommended Posts

Gtiracer

The exhaust on my 205 is rattling, its an Mi for those of you who dont know.

It sounds like it could be comning from around the centre box and also possibly furhter back, did a search and all I could find is that it may be the heat shield being touched.

I find this metal rattle happens at very low revs, just above ide, then goes away anything above that. I will occasionally hear the noise at high revs like the exhaust is 'uncomfortable' if that makes sense at all.

It also knocks a bit when i go over some bumps, any ideas?

Sounds like one of the heat sheilds above the exhaust may be loose... it's possible the baffles inside the exhaust have come loose but with bumps and rattles I'd look at the heat sheilds first :)

That's what mine is doing at the minute, over 3k revs the rattling goes away. I checked the heatshields and made sure there was no contact anywhere but it still rattled. Upon closer inspection it appears the baffles out of my middle box have disappeared completely as it sounds hollow when you knock on it unlike the rear box, I think the sound just bounces around inside it.

Hi Alex

Glad to here the old Mi is going strong!! I think you will find the 'rattle' is the heat shield between the exhaust and the gear stick entry point. The exhaust ran very close to it and I did have to give the heat shield a few wacks to get some clearance. From memory, they can move about a bit so it may now be touching the exhaust.

Saw your other thread on the Loom wrapping round the steering column :):(:( Scary... As you know, I opted not to cut 'n shut the BX loom at the most important part for reliability reasons. It was all bundled up in the small shelf - hope you have now found a way of tying it back??? Or are you going to cut it to length??

I still need to send you those pictures and a copy of the previous V5 for the 'history'. Have also found the receipt for the water pump, so will send that too as it is still under warranty until next year.

Have been very very busy with the lastest project, so appologese for not sending sooner....

Regards

Adrian

not to worry adrian, wasnt sure if you did surf this forum anymore or not, glad to hear restoration sunbeam is going well. I need a decent ramp to get some light under the car so if anybody has a 4 point car lift to get a decent view, i would be in much appreciation to use it.

On some other points if anybody knows a decent place to get heat shields from incase it has broken anything, can they suggest somehwere please?
